Guanacaste is recognized worldwide as one of the best places for Sport and recreational fishing, our fishing can be done on Deep sea for Sailfish, marlin, mahimahi, yellowfin tuna and others from deep and blue water that can be found on ranging from 200 feet and more.

Without neglecting Sport Fishing in its shallow waters such as; Rooster fish, mahi-mahi, snapper, skipjack and yellowfin tuna among many other species; they can be caught in bottom fishing almost all year round, their only and intermittent natural impediment is the trade winds that occur during the summer between late December to late March that affect the Gulf Papagayo.

Fishing activity in Summer & Winter time!

Costa Rica is affected by two seasons; Summer and Winter time. Cold fronts that come down from North America in the months of January to April that affect Costa Rica and therefore the province of Guanacaste on the maritime coast of the Gulf of Papagayo causing abrupt changes in water temperature that affect fishing positively and negatively. The marine currents that move from South to North, contribute to these changes, at the same time drags large amount of plankton, food chain that supplies the Gulf of Papagayo and the entire North Pacific Coast of Costa Rica and the entire ocean.

Months from May to December are of warm, crystalline waters, favoring the species of Sailfish, Dorado and Marlin throughout the Gulf of Papagayo, both in deep and flat waters, in addition, sport fishing for Roosterfish and other species are very favorable due to the abundance of food provided in the winter time with very little wind conditions.
