Gulf Papagayo and Summer season

Gulf Papagayo and the Summer season

This summer season runs from late December to late April, giving rise to the Alician winds that are most pronounced from January to the end of March in the Gulf of Papagayo, and there are many interaction with the fishing. During these months the winds are intermittent and it could be said that they are entirely derived from the descending cold fronts that affect North America and consequently the North Pacific slope of the Gulf of Papagayo in Guanacaste.

These winds cause the waters to change their temperatures abruptly to very cold, up to 10g Celsius, this could temperature is a good news for the fishing of some species such as: grouper, red snapper that migrates from deep waters to shallower waters in search of warmer waters, these species are fish thoroughly. During these three months fishing is a challenge for any fisherman, due to the complicity of navigation since the wind does its part and prevents reaching the fishing spots, this doesn’t mean that other species such as roosterfish and billfish do not have activity in these months, on the contrary, we know that these species must be captured throughout the year, being that the only impediment that prevents these species from being captured is the strong wind.

This phenomenon can temporarily avoid fishing activity in its entirety and thus allow the truce that affects in some way the ecosystem that provides economic support for the localities in the Gulf of Papagayo in Guanacaste
